The works railway is renovated

The railway between Forsviks Bruk and the Göta Canal was first built in 1886 for the transport of goods between the works and the canal, where they were loaded onto waiting boats. There was never a locomotive, however; the wagons were pulled by manpower. The railway was phased out in the 1940s after lorries and trucks took over the transport.

Wagons and points

In 2008 the Forsviks Bruk Interest Association turned the first sod, and since then it has overseen the reconstruction of 470 metres of the works railway between Göta Canal and Strömbron at Forsviks Bruk. Platforms and points are now in place. By 2012 there were three passenger carriages, one adapted for disabled persons. An operations group is responsible for arranging passenger traffic during the summer months each year.

Several players involved

The reconstruction was funded by the European Union's rural development programme, the Forsviks Bruk Interest Association, various sponsors, Karlsborg Tourism AB, Västarvet and the Göta Canal.
