Forsviks bruk

Industrial history in beautiful surroundings

Welcome to one of Sweden’s oldest industrial sites; a beautiful, unique environment with a works railway and historic buildings housing a smithy, a foundry and a wood pulp mill for manufacturing paper. Here you can see a works environment with a history stretching over 600 years, where unique buildings and fascinating exhibits tell us about metal crafts, technology and life in an industrial community. The paddle steamer Eric Nordevall II, which now sails on the Göta Canal and the large lakes, was built here and in the old miller's house there is a coffeshop, Kafé Ada.

At the end of the 1970s all production came to a halt at AB Forsviks Bruk and the buildings slowly started to decay. Renovation of the works was started in 1983 and in 1987 the Foundation Forsviks Bruk Industrial Memorials was formed with the aim of conserving, preserving and bringing the unique industrial environment to life again. Forsviks Bruk is now run by Cultural Development Administration - Sweden's largest administrator of nature and cultural heritage.

Forsvik is located by lake Viken's outlet into Bottensjön, ten kilometers from Karlsborg on the shores of lake Vättern.

A living works

The renovated works is a living museum where you can see work in the smithy and other workshops. The old foundry is now an exciting stage for theatre and music and the other buildings are used for exhibitions and course and conference activities, among other things.
